Trigram Wind
trigram Mountain

Hexagram 53

Jiàn, the big river

Gua Poem:
Gradualness for a woman's marriage, auspicious. Fruitful to determine.

The great image says: the wind blows over the mountains: Gradualness. The noble one stays in dignity and virtue and improves the customs.

Jiàn: the ideogram and the story (NEW) What does it mean for your question?
This hexagram is complementary to hex.54.

Top 9: The wild geese gradually approach the highlands. Their feathers can be used for performing the ceremonies. Auspicious.
If you reach for the highest you can possibly attain, you reach the source and grow beyond yourself. You will lose everything which chains you to worthlessness, and you will be an example.
(Changes to hex.39)  Mirror

9 at 5: The wild geese gradually approach the hill. The woman for three years does not get pregnant, (but) nothing can stop completion. Auspicious.
Difficult situations can be annoying - or disastrous. Don't blame anyone but deal with them the best you can. You will gain experience and wisdom. It will make you strong and teach you to handle whatever life throws at you in the future.
(Changes to hex.52)  Mirror

6 at 4: The wild geese gradually approach the tree. Maybe they find a flat branch. Without fault.
Connect yourself to the values of your life, not to its facts. Then you will irresistibly change it when it does not answer to your ideals. You pick up every small chance for improvement, you leave every detail which is deteriorating.
(Changes to hex.33)  Mirror

9 at 3: The wild geese gradually approach the highlands. The husband goes out and does not return. The woman gets pregnant but does not raise the child. Pitfall. Fruitful to defend against robbers.
Others can do lots of things you don't like. Don't attack them for it, just keep out of your soul what you don't want in there. Live from out your own conscience, in your own power. Love which demands perfection is no love, neither is love which accepts everything.
(Changes to hex.20)  Mirror

6 at 2: The wild geese gradually approach the huge rock. Eat and drink full of joy. Auspicious.
It's the small things together that make a relation strong and lasting. When meals are moments of peace and togetherness, when expressions talk of joy and love, when voices sound harmonious, then the relation will last a lifetime. Not words are important, but the feelings they bear.
(Changes to hex.57)  Mirror

Initial 6: The wild geese gradually approach the riverbank. The young goslings are in danger. There is talk. Without fault.
Follow your intuition, your inner hunches. They will tell you what to do in any situation. Nature talks through them, guides your steps, warns you for danger and makes certain you take the right precautions.
(Changes to hex.37)  Mirror

No lines changing: you can try to do things, but they may fail or even backfire. If there's nothing that should (or can) be done, then this might be a good time to relax and refuel. The Poem and the Image are guides that show you the best way to do that.

The Trigrams offer possibilities that the hexagram-texts don't show.
