The image of hexagram 24
Fù, recover

trigram Earth

trigram Thunder
Hexagram 24 has trigram Thunder below or inside, Earth above or outside. Tri-meanings: Thunder is the awakening or impregnating, the beginning of life. Deep in the earth is where the seed is sleeping until Thunder touches it.

What does it mean, 'inner' and 'outer trigram' (popup)

When trigram Thunder is below (popup)
When trigram Earth is above (popup)

Thunder below Earth: Thunder is the voice of Heaven, the knowledge of how things should be or should move. The Earth is the wide space where everything happens. It is easy to forget the base of what is happening, because with everything one does one looks forward. It is very important to look back from time to time, or to look inward. Is this what I am, is it what I really want?

Fù
The old diviners gave this combination of trigrams a name: Fù. When thunder enters the earth, "the branches sway from the roots". Life happens deep down, at the root collar where the roots bring up the food and the plant gets its shape.

Ideogram of the hexagram name: at the bottom a foot, going backwards, above it a picture of a city. Returning to one's place or one's origin. Restore what was before, or start again at the beginning. Fù means to recover, restore, to go back, report, answer, again, repeatedly, avenge.

The 'Great Image' says: Thunder in the center of the Earth: return. The first kings closed the frontiers at sun solstice, peddlers did not travel, the empress did not leave the region.

Hex.24 is the contrast of 44, which is about creating new things or letting in the unfamiliar.
Hex.24 is returning to the core, recovering the essential.

  Story:
Follow your own road, your own Dao. Only by being oneself over and over again, one fills in one’s place. Who has a dao can be relied upon. Everything he does has the same base, how divers it may be.
:  One's dao can only be followed if one flows along with it. Trying to stick to one road all the time will not work. Every dao always is a never-ending succession of days and nights, of coming and going, of cycles, endings and new beginnings. Moving in cycles, eternally, that is what dao looks like.
Your dao is uniqely yours, it is based on your inner core.
