Guān, watching like a heron

  雚 guàn phonetic. Today it does not exist as a character on its own. It is a picture of a bird like a heron. From 艹 tufts, 吅 cry, and 隹 (zhuī) ‘short-tailed bird’.
  “The 吅 crying 隹 bird with 艸 tufts on its head" (Karlgren).

 

 

  見 jiàn ‘see’, catch sight of; meet with, be exposed to; appear to be; refer to, see, vide; meet, call on.
  A kneeling person with a big eye.

Meanings of Guān

 Meanings of 觀 guān: view; contemplation, look at, watch, observe; sight, view; outlook, concept.
 All meanings have to do with observing. Like a fishing heron intently looking in the water with its fierce eyes.
